Empty Nest: A Reflection on Motherhood

I was off from work this week and had a bit of time to work on a story, except I found myself freewriting for a moment because I was lost in thoughts that have nothing to do with the Gilded Age, the Hudson Valley, fictional characters, or romance. Motherโ€™s Day is this weekend, and I got lost in the thoughts of my own motherhood journey. I recently entered a new phase of my life and I am still trying to process it: My youngest joined the Army and started Basic Training out in Oklahoma a couple of weeks ago.ย  My house is now empty and insanely quiet all day, every day.

Is it already that time again for that New Year, New Me drivel? I donโ€™t mean to be disparaging, and I speak only for myself here when I say that every year Iโ€™m going to do X, Y & Z with the best of intentions and then POOF, it all washes quickly down the drain by mid-year. If youโ€™ve followed me for any length of time, you know this is absolutely true.

Life Happensโ€ฆ. & Sometimes The Writing Just Stops

Itโ€™s crazy to think that itโ€™s been a whole year since I last created a blog post; sometimes the best laid plans go awry because Life just has a different idea for what we should be learning and doing in that time.
